Parley’s Canyon, UT (March 29, 2021) – A crash that took place in Parley’s Canyon on Monday, March 28th put one victim in the hospital and caused hours of gridlock in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80.
At about 5:00 a.m., a passerby on his way to Summit County noticed a passenger van collided with a tractor-trailer and stopped to help.
He reported that the van’s driver was conscious but not speaking. He was struggling to breathe and in a lot of pain.
The passerby called 911 along with other agencies such as the Utah Highway Patrol and the Summit County non-emergency line.
Once first responders arrived, they extricated the victim and he was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.
The Utah Highway Safety Office reported that, in 2001, there a total of 2, 884 accidents involving tractor-trailers took place. 824 of these accidents resulted in victim injuries and an additional 36 were responsible for victim fatalities. 2010 saw a drastic increase in those totals, with more than 500,000 tractor-trailer accidents occurring throughout the year. These collisions left upwards of 100,000 victims suffering from critical injuries, and approximately 5000 victims dead.
