Sandy, UT (June 29, 2022) – One person was injured and a family lost their home on Sunday, June 26th when a barbecue malfunction resulted in a house fire in Sandy.
The event took place at about 6:00 p.m. in the area of 8600 South and 1300 East, a man was on his back porch using the grill when something on the bottom exploded, launching a fireball.
All three residents and one dog were able to exit the home safely.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze in about half an hour, but it did spread to a neighboring home. Firefighters did their best to limit the damage but the house where the fire first began has now been deemed uninhabitable.
The man who was operating the grill sustained non-critical injuries. No other injuries were reported.
