Lehi, UT – Two Dead In Collision On I-15 At MM 284

Lehi, UT (July 08, 2022) – Two people died during a fatal collision that closed down several lanes of Interstate 15 in Lehi on Thursday, July 7th.

Utah Highway Patrol will only identify the victims as a 51-year-old woman, and a 47-year-old man. Their names have not been released.

The incident took place at about 10:55 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 284.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a Honda Pilot SUV had stopped in his lane of travel. An oncoming vehicle swerved in an attempt to circumvent a collision but ultimately hit the disabled SUV at highway speeds.

The impact left two people with critical injuries: the driver of the SUV and a passenger from the other vehicle.

Both patients were taken via ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition. Both later died due to the severity of their injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle was in moderate condition.

The area surrounding exit 284 was closed to traffic for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

UHP is still trying to identify the driver of the SUV who is thought to be a resident of Arizona.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Utah personal injury law states that although the at-fault party died, their estate can still be sued for damages. Under these conditions, any claim for damages will be brought against the estate of the deceased.

This law comes into play in cases where the negligent driver, or contrarily, the injured victim. die as a result of the accident. A victim’s claim for financial recovery is valid even if one of both parties died.
