Cedar City, UT (April 25, 2022) – A Utah deputy, his wife, and two others died when a single-engine plane crashed just minutes after take-off for a sightseeing tour of Zion National Park on Saturday, April 23rd.
The Diamond DA-40 aircraft was located at about 7:00 p.m. in a rural area just outside of Cedar City by deputies responding to reports of a fire.
Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Eatchel, his wife Lindsay Eatchel, Thomas Eatchel, and Danielle Deagostini were all pronounced at the scene.
The small aircraft took off from the Cedar Regional Airport and appeared to be heading east toward the mountains, but four minutes after take-off, radar communication with the aircraft was lost.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
