Salt Lake City, UT (July 30, 2021) – Troopers with the Utah Highway Patrol announced on Friday morning, July 30, that a person whose body was found on Interstate 15 early Thursday morning, July 29, was a 17-year-old male.
The pedestrian has been identified and his family has been notified, per a statement released by the UHP. Dispatchers received calls of a body in the right travel lane of I-15 southbound near 800 North in Salt Lake City around 12:30 a.m., a previous statement said.
EMS units arrived and confirmed that a person had been hit and was killed. No vehicles stopped or reported striking an individual in the area, and no witnesses have come forward to give a statement to the police.
A fingerprint scanner was used in conjunction with the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner to help identify the body, though police will not release his name until next-of-kin notifications are complete.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and no further details have been provided.
