What happened in this crash?

While most of us know that vehicle accidents are a common occurrence in our area, nobody expects that a vehicle will slam into their home. On Oct. 5, Salt Lake City police responded to reports of a car accident on Columbus Street. A neighbor had called to report that a car crashed into a house.

When police arrived, they could not locate the driver, and the homeowners were not on the premises at the time.

“That was very fortunate, because the car appears to have landed in one of the bedrooms,” said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Carlos Valencia. It turns out that the car that crashed into the home had fled from Utah Highway Patrol earlier in the evening. Police did not know why the car fled. They say that the car jumped the curb near the house, then jumped some retention walls, and crash-landed inside one of the bedrooms. The bed in the room was flipped by the car.

While this may seem like a freak accident, it could have been much worse. If someone had been in that room at the time, they could have sustained serious injuries or have been killed.
