A Utah Doctor Files Lawsuit Against Gwyneth Paltrow

We learned yesterday that a Utah doctor has filed a lawsuit against actress Gwyneth Paltrow and the Deer Valley Resort. He says that, back in February of 2016, Paltrow crashed into him while they were skiing causing him to sustain major injuries. He also claims that she did not stop to render aid, that he was left where he fell, unconscious.
The lawsuit claims that Terry Sanderson suffered from a brain injury as a result of the crash and that he had four broken ribs. “My brain felt like I’d been injected with Novocain,” says Sanderson. The lawsuit claims that nobody offered to call for help and that a Deer Valley ski instructor filled out an incident report falsely claiming that Paltrow did not cause the crash.

At the Jardine Law Offices P.C., we do not know how this lawsuit will play out. What we do know is that ski injuries, and sports injuries in general, are common in our area. When they are caused by another person, you need to know where to turn. When you need a Salt Lake City sports injury attorney, call us today.

What Can Happen?

One of the most common sports injuries that occur are concussions, which are actually mild traumatic brain injuries. Each year, there are around 1.6 to 3.8 million sports-related concussions. While these injuries are much more common in children and teens who play sports, adults also suffer from them as well. It is important that these injuries are taken seriously, as they can become worse if a person suffers another blow to the head before they are healed.

Other common sports injuries are:

  • Dislocated joints
  • Fractured Bones
  • Spinal cord trauma
  • Tendon and ligament tears
  • Severe strains and sprains

Sports injuries happen due to a variety of factors. In the case above, Mr. Sanderson says he was the victim of a collision. Other causes can be due to improperly warming up, improper equipment, poor training practices, as well as underlying health conditions.

Many of these injuries can be prevented. Coaches and instructors should always take the steps necessary to keep people safe. Preventative measures can go a long way towards ensuring that the people being trained as well as those around them remain free from harm.
