Hatch, UT (October 01, 2021) – Officials have released the name of the bicyclist who died when he was struck by a car on US-89 on Wednesday, September 29th in Garfield County.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Tyler Droeger, a resident of Manawa, Wisconsin. He was cycling to raise awareness of hunger among the Navajos and to raise money for a scholarship.
The crash occurred in the town of Hatch, just outside of Panguitch at about 2:50 p.m.
An investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol determined that a Subaru Forester was driving northbound on US-89 when, for reasons still under investigation, it swerved off the side of the highway. In doing so, the Subaru made contact with the back of Droeger’s bicycle as he cycled on the north shoulder of the road.
The car and Droeger left the paved portion of the roadway and entered a ravine. The Subaru overturned, coming to an uncontrolled stop on the driver’s side.
Droeger fell to the bottom and died at the scene.
The Utah State Bureau of Investigations is assisting with the crash investigation.
No additional details about the accident have been released.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Tyler Droeger, at this time.
Wrongful Deaths in Hatch
When you lose a family member in an accident, your whole life changes. Not only have you lost someone you love, but you may also have lost the economic support of your family’s breadwinner, and the emotional support and love of a child, parent, or spouse. While we always carry those we love with us, it is also important to keep justice and your family’s security in mind.
If your family member died by misadventure or an accident caused by someone else, you might be entitled to file a claim of wrongful death. Third-party liability is a crucial element in wrongful death cases. A reliable way to determine if you are eligible to file is to ask yourself if your family member would have been eligible to file a personal injury suit if they survived, and, if so, who would they have filed it against.
In Utah, a wrongful death claim can be filed by the deceased’s heirs or by the representative of the deceased’s estate. Usually, these people are one and the same but occasionally, the estate’s representative is not a blood relation. In addition to this, family members who are not technically blood-related, like stepchildren or adoptive parents, are also entitled to file a claim.
If you are unsure who is responsible for the death, our attorneys can conduct a thorough investigation of the accident.
