Wrongful Deaths in Utah
When you lose a person you love in an avoidable accident, it affects every part of your life. In addition to coping with a personal tragedy, you may have also lost the financial support of your family’s major earner, and the emotional support and love of a child, parent, or spouse. While those we love always have a special place in our hearts, your family’s future and financial security are no less important than they previously were and need to be considered.
If your family member died by misadventure or an accident for which someone else was at fault, you probably have a valid claim of wrongful death. Third-party able to file is to ask yourself if your family member would have been eligible to file a personal injury suit if they survived, and, if so, who would they have filed it against.
If you are uncertain about who is responsible for the death, our attorneys have the resources to conduct a thorough investigation of the accident.
In Utah, a wrongful death claim can only be enacted by the deceased’s beneficiaries or by the representative of the deceased’s estate. Usually, these people are one and the same but occasionally, the estate’s representative is not a blood relation. In addition to this, those who are kin but not technically blood-related, such as stepchildren or adoptive parents, are also entitled to file a claim.
