A total of 62,471 vehicle collisions took place in Utah in 2016. 259 of these collisions were fatal, costing 281 lives. Due to the fact that transportation is an essential part of daily life for most of the state’s residents, it is easy to become complacent and bury the thought that real lives are risked every time someone gets behind the wheel. The three main causes of 2016’s 62,471 car accidents were following too closely (16.1), failure to yield the right-of-way (12.2), and of course, speeding (10.2).
