Salt Lake City, UT (December 01, 2020) – An officer with the Sandy City Police Department sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening when he was rear-ended at a stoplight on Monday, November 30th.
Reports indicate that, as the officer’s vehicle was stopped at a northbound traffic light at the intersection of Camp Williams Avenue and Redwood Road, a Toyota pick-up truck that was unable to stop in time rear-ended him and then entered the intersection where it collided with another vehicle.
The officer was transported to a local trauma center. The full extent of his injuries is not known at this time.
The accident is currently under investigation. Officers do not believe that driver impairment was a factor.
The two other drivers involved sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
The state of Utah follows no-fault car insurance laws. This means that any driver who is involved in an accident, no matter who was at fault, is required to solicit financial compensation through their own insurance carrier first. Consequently, it is not necessary to establish fault for the accident.
Unfortunately, an insurance claim may not yield enough monetary compensation to cover more severe injuries, like those that demand long hospital stays, time away from work, or lifelong handicaps. Obtaining compensation for more serious injuries may require you to file a civil claim against the inattentive driver outside of Utah’s insurance rules.
When victims are injured in accidents caused by the negligence of other drivers, it is crucial that they seek legal guidance from a skilled and knowledgeable car accident attorney in Salt Lake City as soon as possible. When victims are harmed in collisions, through no fault of their own, they are often able to obtain compensation from wrongdoers to alleviate the financial costs they face for medical treatment, lost wages, property repairs, and a variety of other economic and non-economic damages.
