Utah Co, UT – Tractor-Trailer Driver Ejected, Killed On I-15 Near American Fork

Utah Co, UT (September 01, 2021) – A tractor-trailer operator died on Monday, August 30th after he was ejected from his cab in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in northern Utah County.

The accident happened in the area of Lindon and American Fork. It closed down three lanes of travel and backed up traffic for miles.

The tractor-trailer blew a left front steer tire, causing the truck to swerve to the left across multiple lanes, and strike the cement highway median. The driver was ejected and died from the resulting injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver was ejected and pulled underneath the truck’s wheels as it continued south. The truck came to an uncontrolled stop in the left emergency lane.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

Tractor-Trailer Accidents in Utah County

Tractor-trailer accidents are often caused by negligence on the part of the trucking company. These include overloaded or overweight trailers, faulty truck parts, poor or no maintenance, inadequate driver training, speeding, or other bad driving habits. When mixed with inclement weather, poor road conditions, and overtaxed drivers who are extremely fatigued, the chance for an accident is high.

When victims are injured in accidents caused by the negligence of other drivers, it is crucial that they seek legal guidance from a skilled and knowledgeable tractor-trailer accident attorney in Utah County as soon as possible. When victims are harmed in collisions, through no fault of their own, they are often able to obtain compensation from wrongdoers to alleviate the financial costs they face for medical treatment, lost wages, property repairs, and a variety of other economic and non-economic damages.

Between 1992 and 2002, the rate of fatal tractor-trailer crashes rose by 10%. These preventable accidents were caused mainly by avoidable circumstances such as driver fatigue, unsafe truck operation, oversized and unbalanced payloads, and faulty equipment. Accidents involving large commercial trucks are also subject to the same causative factors as other vehicles, including driver exhaustion, drunk driving, driver mistakes, equipment malfunctions, and improper maintenance.

In 2001, the Utah Highway Safety Office said there were a total of 2, 884 accidents involving tractor-trailers. Over 800 of these accidents caused victim injuries and 36 of them resulted in fatalities. 2010 saw a radical rise in those numbers, with more than 500,000 tractor-trailer crashes taking place throughout the year. These accidents left more than 100,000 victims to bear critical injuries, and just over 5000 victims dead.
