Motor Vehicle Collisions in Syracuse

Intersections are often the site of serious and fatal traffic collisions. It is important to be extra cautious when approaching and passing through an intersection due to the possibility of another car coming at you from various directions. A large percentage of the fatal vehicle accidents that occur in Syracuse and across the state of Utah occur at intersections. There were 78 fatal intersection accidents in Utah in 2016 which accounted for approximately 20% of all fatal traffic accidents that same year.

Some of the more common causes of intersection car accidents include;

  • Running Stop Signs and Red Lights: The odds of becoming involved in a collision are drastically increased when stop signs and red lights are ignored.
  • Distracted Driving: Talking on the phone, texting while you are behind the wheel, rubbernecking, and other forms of distraction by drivers increases the risk of an accident.
  • Disregarding Illegal Turn Signs: When righthand or lefthand turns are not allowed, it is usually to lower the chances of an intersection accident as well as traffic congestion. Making illegal turns because they are convenient puts you and other drivers at risk.
  • Failure to Utilize Turning Signals: If you fail to turn on your turn signal, other drivers don’t know that you are about to make a turn. This greatly increased the possibility of an accident.
  • Intoxicated Driving: Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs your decision-making ability, reduces your hand-eye coordination, and will almost certainly end in disaster.
