T-Bone Collisions in Utah

As cited in an in-depth study directed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,307,000 car accidents took place at intersections in 2008, accounting for 40%  of all motor vehicle accidents nationwide. This indicates that almost half of the nation’s car crashes occur in intersections.

In that same year, Utah’s 58 fatal intersection accidents constituted 21.2% of its car accident-related deaths, denoting a 6.5% reduction when compared to 2016.

Even though all kinds of accidents can happen in an intersection, by far the most extreme is a broadside collision. Often referred to as being T-boned, these dangerous accidents take place when the front end of one car crashes into the side of another. T-bone and other side-impact accidents caused the deaths of 1,770 vehicle occupants in 2017.
