Magna, UT – Christina J. Cloward Identified As Victim Of Fatal Crash On SR-201

Magna, UT (June 07, 2021) – The name of the woman who was killed in a car crash on Friday, June 4th in the westbound lanes of State Route 201 has been released.

The deceased was identified as 37-year-old Christina J. Cloward, a resident of Sandy who died during a three-car accident in the area of 8400 West in Magna at about 12:30 a.m.

Sources reported that a westbound GMC pick-up truck was exiting SR-201 at 8400 West to go southbound when it sideswiped a Toyota Camry going the same direction.

After the crash, both vehicles skidded across 8400 West back to the westbound ramp of SR-201. As the truck was traversing the ramp it crashed into an Audi Q7 almost head-on.

The driver of the pick-up truck, who was later identified as Cloward, was thrown from the cab. Her condition was initially described as critical, and a medical helicopter was dispatched, but ultimately canceled when Cloward died at the scene.

Preliminary reports indicated that the deceased was male, but were later revised.

The occupants of the Camry sustained unspecified non-critical injuries.

The occupants of the Audi were taken by ambulance to a local medical facility in serious condition.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Ms. Christina J. Cloward, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Anytime the injured plaintiff or the respondent dies as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Utah, judicial code 78B-3-107 will govern any legal claim that follows.

This part of the law states that even though the injured party died, their estate still has a legal claim against the respondent. The death of the victim does not imply that the negligent driver is somehow exempt from their duty to pay financial compensation to the family or estate of the deceased.

This same statute comes into play if the negligent driver was killed during the accident. Under these circumstances, the claim for damages would instead be brought against the deceased’s estate.

This law is applied in cases where either the injured victim or the at-fault driver, or both, die as a result of the accident. The victim’s claim for financial compensation is valid regardless of which side of the bench the deceased was on.
