Spanish Fork, UT (August 21, 2021) – The Utah Highway Patrol was on the scene to investigate a collision during which a teenage driver allegedly ran a stoplight, crashed into a patrol car, and then struck a pedestrian, pinning them against a tree on Saturday, August 21st in Utah County.
A statement of probable cause shows that the accident occurred at the intersection of Center Street and 630 West in Spanish Fork.
The driver, 19-year-old Harmonica Lee Marshall, has since been arrested and charged on suspicion of alcohol-restricted driver and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, both of which are Class B misdemeanors, as well as infractions including no valid license/never obtained license, and no proof of insurance.
According to departmental policy, in order to circumvent a potential conflict of interest, the Utah Highway Patrol will be handling the investigation due to the fact that the incident included a Spanish Fork Police officer.
Both the pedestrian and the trooper were taken by ambulance from the scene to a nearby medical facility. Neither set of injuries was believed to be life-threatening.
