West Valley City, UT (September 14, 2022) – A collision involving a tractor-trailer shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 215 as well as the southbound lanes leading to Interstate 80 on Wednesday, September 14th in West Valley City.
The Utah Department of Public Safety reported that, at about 1:00 p.m., a tractor-trailer with an empty trailer was heading northbound on I-215 when the operator lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway while merging at the I-80 junction. The truck jackknifed and struck a concrete barrier.
A passenger vehicle that was directly behind the truck was unable to avoid crashing into the back of the trailer, causing its occupants to sustain non-critical injuries.
The impact caused the truck’s fuel tank to leak and HAZMAT crews were requested to the scene.
