Salt Lake City, UT – Uber Passenger Dead, Driver In Custody After Collision With TRAX Train Near W. Temple And 700 South

Salt Lake City, UT (September 14, 2022) – One person died during a collision between a rideshare vehicle and a TRAX train on Wednesday, September 14th in Salt Lake City.

The incident took place in the area of 700 South and West Temple at about 7:45 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Utah Transit Authority reported that an Uber driving southbound on West Temple ran a red light and collided with a TRAX train heading eastbound along 700 South.

According to officials, the train was moving at about 35 miles per hour, which is standard for that area, when the Uber driver blew through a light that had been red for quite some time.

The Uber passenger sustained serious injuries and ultimately passed away. His name has not been released.

The Uber driver was unharmed during the crash. No injuries to anyone on board the train have been reported.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

Depending on the events leading up to the crash, determining liability in an accident involving a rideshare vehicle can be complicated. An experienced Utah personal injury attorney will be familiar with the obstacles that are involved in rideshare cases, accurately determine who is at fault, and ensure they are held responsible for your damages.

Rideshare drivers, such as those that work for Uber and Lyft, are considered independent contractors. This gives these companies, and others like them, deniability for any liability for accidents involving their drivers. This technicality, along with various other loopholes, is why it is essential to work with an attorney who is skilled in handling rideshare accidents.

Until you have met with an attorney, you should not speak to anyone associated with your accident. Never sign any settlement forms or waivers, or accept any payment from the driver, insurance carrier, or anyone else.
