Ogden, UT – One Dead, One Critical After Pair Struck While Changing Tire On I-15 Near 24Th St

Ogden, UT (October 05, 2022) – One person was killed and another was left with critical injuries after they were struck by a driver as they were trying to change a tire on the side of Interstate 15 in Ogden on Tuesday, September 4th.

The incident took place at about 11:30 a.m. on the northbound side of the interstate near the 24th Street exit.

According to sources, two pickup trucks, each towing a trailer, pulled off into the lefthand emergency lane when the leading truck got a flat tire.

Seconds later, a third pickup truck, driven by an adult female, sideswiped the second pickup and trailer as she drove by, still moving at interstate speeds.

The female driver then continued forward, striking both pedestrians as they attempted to re-enter their pickup through the passenger door. Troopers said the woman did not immediately stop after hitting the men and ended up further down the highway.

After the crash, one of the pedestrians was left on the northbound side in critical condition. The other was tossed over the median onto the lefthand shoulder by the impact and died after being airlifted to a trauma center.

The woman in the pickup sustained non-critical injuries.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.

Those who are entitled to benefit from a wrongful death claim are clearly outlined under Utah law. Those who were close to the deceased, or who were financially dependent on the deceased, are the only ones who can bring this kind of claim.

In many cases, those who pursue financial compensation following a wrongful death are immediate surviving family members, such as a child or a spouse.

If the deceased had no immediate family, however, then financial dependents and extended family may have a valid case

Financial Dependents

A person who was financially dependent on the deceased is entitled to pursue financial compensation. Since the deceased was supplying and, presumably, planned to continue to supply economic resources to their dependent, that dependent should continue to obtain the financial help they were offered.

Even though immediate family members will take priority, all dependents are eligible to seek compensation.

Immediate Family

Spouses, children, adopted children, life partners, and any other dependents are entitled to file a lawsuit against the person or persons responsible for the wrongful death of their family member.

In these cases, members of the immediate family will take precedence. This means that if any other family members, such as parents or siblings, attempt to file for wrongful death, immediate family members will be considered first.

Extended Family

In the event that the deceased has no immediate family members or financial dependents, then extended family members might be able to sue for wrongful death.

Extended family members include blood relatives who will act as the victim’s heir. Adult children, spouses, parents, and other dependents also fall under the umbrella of extended family.
