North Ogden, UT (May 21, 2022) – Two teenagers were killed and three more were injured when a car crashed into a tree on Saturday, May 21st.
The incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. in the 700th block of 3100 North in North Ogden when an officer attempted to pull the vehicle over for minor traffic infractions.
Instead of stopping, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
Moments later, the car was throwing off sparks as it flew through the intersection of 3100 North and 450 East before leaving the roadway and slamming into a tree.
According to officials, all five of the vehicle’s occupants were males in their late teens.
Two of the teenagers died at the scene. The three others were transported by paramedics to area hospitals. Their current conditions are unknown.
Investigators are working to identify everyone involved and make appropriate notifications to their families.
Police said it is still unclear why the driver ran when the officer attempted the traffic stop and are considering that impairment may have been a factor.
The Weber County Crash Team, Weber Metro CSI, and the medical examiner are assisting with this investigation.
