South Jordan, UT (July 06, 2022) – Two children are in the hospital after a serious accident in which they were struck by the driver of an SUV that shut down a roadway for several hours on Wednesday, July 6th.
The crash took place at about 12:00 p.m. in the area of 2200 West and 11400 South.
An official with the South Jordan Police Department was unable to confirm the exact ages of the boys, but a source said they appeared to be about 9 or 10 years old.
When responders arrived, both children were unconscious.
One of the boys was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake. The other was transferred by ambulance. Both children are in critical condition.
The two are thought to be friends, and not related to one another.
According to an investigation, police said the driver of the SUV veered off the roadway, dragging the children about 200 feet before finally coming to a stop.
The roadway was shut down for several hours from 2200 West and Gold Dust Drive while officers conducted an investigation.
The adult female driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and cooperated with the police.
The roadway was reopened at about 3:50 p.m.
