Salt Lake City, UT (July 28, 2022) – Search and rescue crews used a helicopter to rescue a woman from a canyon after she was involved in an ATV rollover on Thursday, July 28th.
A representative from the Unified Police Department said they were notified at about 4:30 p.m. of a 64-year-old woman injured during an ATV rollover in Big Cottonwood Canyon near the Mineral Fork trailhead.
The victim was riding with another person who was able to locate cell service and call 911.
The victim sustained moderate injuries but is expected to recover.
Due to the formidable terrain, rescuers used a helicopter to transport the woman out of the area. She was transferred to an ambulance and taken to a hospital.
Additional details about the incident have not been released.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
In a rollover collision, an ATV overturns onto its side or roof. Rollover accidents often take place when a driver overcorrects after dodging an object in the roadway or due to stopping unexpectedly. Rollover accidents can also be caused by problems with the vehicle’s tires.
SUV rollover accidents often leave their victims with serious injuries, such as:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Damage to the spinal cord
- Injuries to the back and neck
- Broken or fractured bones
- Death
- Paralysis
The severe nature of the above-listed injuries almost always leaves victims with expensive medical bills, an extended recovery period during which they are unable to work, and, in extreme cases, permanent disabilities that could demand a lifetime of care.
In some situations, the vehicle’s high center of gravity, a badly designed suspension system, and brakes insufficient for the size of the vehicle can contribute to or cause a rollover accident.
The manufacturers of all-terrain vehicles have known for a long time that the vehicles they make have a high center of gravity, a flaw inherent in their design. This makes them prone to rollovers during accidents and certain other scenarios.
