Salt Lake City, UT – Two People, Dog Burned In Transient-Sourced Flashover Fire At 1276 South And 500 West

Salt Lake City, UT (July 28, 2022) – Two people and a dog sustained significant burn injuries in a flashover fire in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, July 27th.

An official from the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to reports of a fire with several burn victims at about 10:00 p.m.

According to officials, two transients were attempting to use alcohol to start an outdoor fire in the area of 500 West and 1276 South. The alcohol resulted in a flashover that temporarily burned out of control.

During a flashover, all combustible surfaces in an enclosed space or compartment are ignited quickly and simultaneously.

The event caused burn injuries to two people and a dog.

One patient was hospitalized in critical condition. The second victim sustained non-critical injuries.

The dog was burned on its ears and nose but is expected to recover.

The fire was extinguished by crews before structure damage of any significance occurred.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
