Ogden, UT – 31St St Overpass Closed After Tanker Rollover, HAZMAT Spill Lead To Injuries

Ogden, UT (July 23, 2022) –  West 31st Street was shut down after a tanker truck rolled over on the off-ramp from Interstate 15 on Friday, July 22nd.

The accident took place at about 8:00 p.m.

Road clean-up and rescue conditions were problematic due to the fact that the tank ruptured dumping more than 8,000 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and surrounding area.

The truck operator sustained non-critical injuries.

The exact cause of the crash has not been revealed but speed is being considered a factor.

Once they arrived at the scene, environmental cleanup crews worked well into the following morning.

Federal and state governments are responsible for the safety regulations overseeing the transportation of hazardous materials. Recently, policymakers at both levels re-evaluated the efficacy of current laws, mainly due to the safety concerns surrounding the shipping of dangerous materials.

In accidents involving hazardous materials, many emergency responders are not familiar with the safety measures that have to be taken to handle this kind of incident without producing more injured victims.

Besides being ineffective, this lack of awareness of safety protocol also creates a risky situation for the victims involved in the accident as well as the responders themselves since a lot of mistakes could easily be made when the operation and maintenance of a tractor-trailer or the handling of hazardous materials are not correctly handled.

When a collision causes harm to other people, the injured victims need to seek legal guidance from a personal injury attorney in Utah. Whenever somebody is hurt and another person is the cause, they are qualified to obtain compensation for their losses.

If failure to abide by the regulations that control safety and compliance where hazardous materials are involved, you have legal options available to you.
