Motorcycle Accidents in Utah

Based on current trends, if a motorcyclist is struck by a car, they are three times more likely to be critically injured and 14 times more predisposed to being killed than someone inside a passenger vehicle.

About 80% of motorcycle accidents in the United States result in death or injury compared to just 20% of car accidents. In addition to this, the rate of fatal motorcycle accidents has been steadily increasing since 2003. The most current statistics show a 55% increase.

By the very nature of its design, a motorcycle provides its rider with an exciting mode of travel but offers almost no protection during an accident. Every year, across the country, an estimated 2,000 people die in motorcycle accidents. 50,000 more motorcyclists sustain harsh physical injuries due to these accidents.

An overwhelming majority of motorcycle accidents that end in death or injury involve another vehicle, such as a truck or car. They are most often caused by a failure on the part of the other driver to be aware of the motorcyclist’s presence on the roadway or to yield the right-of-way.
