Cedar City, UT – Two Injured When Home Near Cedar City Temple Catches Fire

Cedar City, UT (August 01, 2022) – Fire crews responded to a structure fire on Sunday, July 31st in a home neighboring the grounds of the Cedar City Temple.

At about 8:40 p.m., dispatchers received reports of a residential fire on Carmel Canyon Road in Cedar City.

According to the Cedar City Fire Chief, the first engine crews initially went to the wrong address due to a confusingly laid-out road.

26 fire personnel, including three full engine crews, one ladder truck, one heavy rescue, and three command staff, were on the scene.

The source of the blaze was determined to be a theater room in the home’s basement,

Two injuries were reported: a 2-year-old sustained a burn injury and one firefighter was admitted to a local emergency room with an injury to his hand.

The home’s residents, all three generations of them, managed to evacuate on their own.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Fires can be caused by multiple factors. Salt Lake City and its neighboring communities are known for their heavy fire season that starts in the middle of summer. Sadly, fires are not just a force of nature. Far too often, they are caused by malicious or negligent people.

Along with burn injuries, those who survive house fires are also susceptible to respiratory problems caused by smoke inhalation, along with contusions, lacerations, and broken bones sustained while trying to escape the smoke and flames.

Several thousand victims sustain injuries caused by house fires every year. Many people who endure fire-related injuries will have to undergo numerous medical treatments. Additionally, until they have fully recovered, they will be unable to work. Both of these hurdles can negatively impact their lives and the lives of their families as well.
