Roy, UT (September 21, 2021) – A man was critically injured on Monday, September 20th when an elderly driver struck him with her car while he was riding his bicycle in Weber County.
A statement from a Roy Police Department Master Officer said that a 77-year-old woman ran over the 62-year-old man twice. The accident took place at about 8:20 a.m. on 3500 West at the entrance to Kent’s Market.
A security camera at a local restaurant caught the incident on tape. The footage is currently being reviewed by police as part of their investigation.
The video has confirmed that the woman struck the rider as she was making a righthand turn onto 3500 West. She then put her car in reverse and backed over the cyclist again. Following that, she pulled forward again, this time at an angle that missed the man but ran directly over the bike.
Officials said dispatch received multiple calls reporting the accident. The security tape shows that officers arrived in just three minutes and emergency medics in about five.
Life-saving measures were performed and were able to revive the victim. The most recent report from the hospital indicates that he is in critical condition.
Due to the seriousness of the accident, officers checked to make sure the driver was not under the influence. This accident is under investigation.
