Salt Lake City, UT – Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured At 400 South And 200 West

Salt Lake City, UT (August 21, 2021) – Police are actively searching for a suspect that was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a pedestrian on Saturday, August 21st in downtown Salt Lake City.

The crash took place at about 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of 200 West and 400 South in Salt Lake County.

Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department reported that a 35-year-old male was walking south inside of a crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition. His name has not been released.

Eyewitnesses said that the man was hit by someone driving a black sports utility vehicle, possibly a Honda CRV, that sustained heavy front-end damage.

The suspect failed to stop, notify police, or render aid and instead fled the scene.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Every year in Utah, an estimated 30 pedestrians are killed in car accidents and an additional 785 will require a visit to the emergency room or extended hospitalization for treatment of their accident-related injuries. As reported by the Utah Highway Safety Office, the rate of pedestrian-involved accidents has increased every year for nearly a decade, with 2012 marking the apex of these tragic events.

Our Salt Lake City personal injury attorneys provide trusted and compassionate representation to ensure families are able to get the justice they deserve from the person who caused their injuries.

As reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian injury takes place once every 8 minutes and a pedestrian fatality happens once every two hours somewhere in the United States. Close to 5,000 pedestrians died as a result of car accidents in 2014. In that same year, 15% of all vehicular deaths were pedestrian fatalities.

Salt Lake City pedestrian accident attorneys Joseph Jardine and Peter Goodall at Jardine Law Offices P.C. are dedicated to helping families move forward in the best way imaginable after enduring injuries or fatalities caused by driver negligence.

If you have sustained an injury in a pedestrian accident in Utah, you will undoubtedly receive a phone call from the insurance company of the driver who was involved in your car accident, asking you to provide them with a recorded statement. You are not, however, required to provide one, particularly if you have not yet met with a personal injury attorney.

It is always a good idea to seek the advice of an attorney before providing any kind of statement to anyone. This is due to the fact that insurance companies take the time to teach their adjusters to ask specific questions that are worded in such a way as to actually be used against you and bring down the value of your claim as much as possible. A practiced Utah pedestrian accident attorney will know how to prevent insurance adjusters from taking advantage of you.

While it is true that no amount of money can ever fully make things right after enduring damages due to the careless and negligent actions of a driver, victims discover that having the financial resources necessary to cover medical treatment, lost wages, funeral costs, and other expenses they accumulate after an accident is helpful.
