Duchesne Co, UT (October 14, 2020) – Local law enforcement officers have identified the two people who were killed when their SUV hit a cow on SR-40 in Duchesne County on Sunday, October 11th.
The deceased victims have been identified as 48-year-old Cody Marx, a resident of Roosevelt, and 31-year-old Whitney A. Corbridge, a resident of Vernal.
According to officials with the Utah Highway Patrol, at about 8:15 p.m., a Ford Explorer heading eastbound collided with a cow along SR-40.
As the driver stopped and exited the vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata that was directly behind the Explorer also pulled over and a backseat passenger got out of the vehicle. Both people were standing on the shoulder when a GMC pick-up truck coming from the opposite direction struck the dead cow in the roadway, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the Explorer.
The force of the impact thrust the Explorer forward where it hit both people standing on the shoulder.
Marx, the driver of the Explorer, was killed on impact.
Corbridge, the passenger in the Sonata, was transported via ambulance to Uintah Basin Medical Center. She was pronounced dead a short while later.
The driver of the GMC and the three passengers from the Sonata were unharmed during the incident.
The scene of the accident was closed temporarily while officers from the Utah Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victims, Mr. Cody Marx and Mrs. Whitney Corbridge, at this time.
