Orem, UT (October 16, 2021) – Two people died and two more were hospitalized following a car accident on Friday, October 15th at about 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of State Street and 400 South in Orem.
Officers from the Orem Police Department said both of the deceased were women in their 20s. Their identities are not being released pending family notification.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered an intersection accident involving two vehicles carrying a total of four people. One of the vehicles contained a driver and two passengers and the second vehicle was occupied by only a driver.
Police and emergency medics found that two occupants in one of the vehicles had died due to the severity of their injuries. The driver was still alive and taken to a nearby hospital.
The surviving driver of the other vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment. Both sets of injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Officials are working tirelessly to piece together this tragedy. The scene has been taped off since Friday night for investigation.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
When you lose a family member in an accident, it reshapes your entire life. In addition to losing a person you love, you may have just lost the financial support of your family’s provider, and the emotional support and love of a child, parent, or spouse. While those we love always have a special place in our hearts, you must also think of your family’s future and security and find a way to move forward.
If your family member died by a misadventure or an accident caused by someone else, you might be entitled to file a claim of wrongful death. Third-party liability is a crucial element in wrongful death cases. A reliable way to determine if you are eligible to file is to ask yourself if your family member would have been eligible to file a personal injury suit if they survived, and, if so, who would they have filed it against.
If you are uncertain who is responsible for the death, our attorneys can conduct a thorough investigation of the accident.
In Utah, a wrongful death claim can be filed by the deceased’s heirs or by the representative of the deceased’s estate. Usually, these people are one and the same but occasionally, the estate’s representative is not a blood relation. In addition to this, family members who are not technically blood-related, like stepchildren or adoptive parents, are also entitled to file a claim.
When people die from injuries sustained in accidents caused by careless, malicious, or negligent drivers, their immediate family may be entitled to damages. Filing a legal claim with a compassionate and skilled wrongful death lawyer in Orem can help to ensure your legal rights are defended after the loss of a loved one.
