Spanish Fork, UT (March 18, 2022) – Utah Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to investigate a series of collisions after a fire engine from Spanish Fork struck multiple vehicles on the interstate en route to an accident.
According to officials, the fire truck was responding to a critical injury crash near milepost 256-257 at about 11:45 a.m. when it pulled onto the interstate and crossed into the lefthand emergency lane.
As the rig was on its way to the scene of the accident, nine cars were struck.
One woman and two children from one vehicle and one woman and two children from another vehicle, along with three firefighters, were all taken by ambulances to local hospitals in non-critical conditions.
A video of the accident has been consigned to law enforcement for review. They are attempting to establish if the fire engine was driving too far over the emergency lane, or if another vehicle was driving too close to the emergency lane, causing the collision.
Once officials collect all information pertinent to their investigation, it will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office to determine liability and whether any citations will be issued.
