Fatal Car Accidents in Utah

In 2015, 276 people died in Utah car accidents; the highest rate of crash-related fatalities in the state in the last seven years. According to a representative from the Utah Highway Patrol, 93% of those deaths were caused by human error.

While driving regulations and laws in every state exist for the single purpose of preventing car accidents and the loss of life, it is clear that not enough is being done. Especially when you consider that Utah’s rate of fatal car accidents has risen by more than 25% since its all-time low in 2012.

Although some of these fatal accidents can be attributed to an overall increase in travel, most of the state’s deadly crashes happen because drivers refuse to heed the state’s warnings about safe driving. Offenses ranging from not being properly restrained while the vehicle is moving, to driving while intoxicated, Utah residents seem absolutely determined to go against common sense and the law.
