The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that, in one recent year, nearly 129,000 people nationwide needed emergency room treatment and additional medical care for bicycle accident-related injuries. Moreover, 5,376 of those 129,000 eventually died due to their injuries.
Bicyclists are twice as likely to sustain mortal injuries after being involved in a traffic collision than the occupant of a vehicle. Those who survive must face a very arduous and costly road to recovery.
When victims are injured in accidents caused by the negligence of other drivers, it is crucial that they seek legal guidance from a skilled and knowledgeable bicycle accident attorney in Salt Lake City as soon as possible. When victims are harmed in collisions, through no fault of their own, they are often able to obtain compensation from wrongdoers to alleviate the financial costs they face for medical treatment, lost wages, property repairs, and a variety of other economic and non-economic damages.
Sadly, general intolerance and/or a total lack of regard for the legal rights of bicycle riders usually results in serious collisions between the two. The general unwillingness on the part of motor vehicle drivers to share Missouri’s roadways only serves to foster a more aggressive atmosphere and hazardous conditions for bike riders.
Research has shown that having more riders on the road actually engenders more protected cycling conditions. Actually, the rate of fatal bicycle accidents is substantially lower in areas that have large volumes of bicycle riders. This is partially due to the resident’s heightened awareness of bicycle riders sharing the roadway.
