St. George, UT (July 16, 2021) – One person was taken by paramedics to St. George Regional Hospital on the afternoon of Friday, July 16th after an accident at the intersection of South Valley View Drive and Dixie Drive, causing the area to be shut down for about an hour.
Officers from the St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance personnel were all dispatched to the scene after being notified of the incident at about 2:45 p.m.
A source from inside the St. George Police Department stated that a maroon passenger vehicle had come to a stop at a red light in the inside northbound lane of Dixie Drive when the driver of a passenger van, traveling northbound along Dixie Drive behind the maroon vehicle, failed to notice that the car had stopped for a red light and crashed into the back of it.
The driver of the maroon vehicle was taken via ambulance to a local medical facility. The severity of the driver’s injuries is not yet known.
Traffic attempting to head northbound on Dixie Drive was diverted through the parking lot behind the Sinclair Gas station at the intersection as wreckers and emergency personnel cleared the area.
Police said that the driver of the passenger van received citations for various traffic violations.
This accident is under investigation by local law enforcement.
