St. George, UT – Truck Accident With Injuries On Dixie Dr

St. George, UT (February 14, 2021) – A collision between a pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer shut down the northbound lanes of Dixie Drive on Friday, February 12th.

The accident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Dixie Drive when the driver of a pick-up truck that was heading southbound veered over the median and crashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer jackknifed and scattered most of the sand it was carrying in its side dump trailer. Both vehicles and the ensuing debris obstructed the northbound lanes and slowed all southbound traffic.

The operator of the tractor-trailer was transported via ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the pick-up truck was not harmed during the incident despite extensive damage to his vehicle.

An accident reconstruction team will be investigating.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

According to the state’s Highway Safety Office, almost 3,000 tractor-trailers collisions took place in Utah in 2011. More than 800 of these kinds of accidents resulted in some form of injury to at least one person and cost the lives of nearly 40 victims. 2012 saw a dramatic upswing increase in those sums, with the country as a whole witnessing more than 500,000 truck accidents throughout the year, resulting in 100,000 critically injured and 5,000 dead.
