Salt Lake City, UT (February 07, 2021) – A 79-year-old pedestrian passed away in the hospital on Sunday, February 7th after he was struck by a car as he tried to cross 400 South in Salt Lake City.
An official with the Salt Lake City Police Department stated that the accident took place at around 12:10 a.m. on 400 South in the area of 200 West.
The driver of the striking car stopped momentarily after crashing into the man, but then got back in their car and fled the scene.
The driver is described as a male, driving a silver SUV, possibly a Suburban.
The injured man was awake and breathing on his own when he was transported via ambulance to a local hospital. He was promptly taken into surgery but died shortly thereafter.
The victim’s identity is not being released as police are awaiting the notification of his next of kin.
