New Harmony, UT (May 13, 2022) – A driver was taken to an area hospital after a collision forced her car off the roadway and into a ditch on Friday, May 13th in New Harmony.
The incident took place at about 12:00 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Old Highway 144 close to a Shell gas station near Interstate 15.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Sergeant said that the car ended up in a steep drainage ditch, stuck on its side, with its front end crushed into a large metal culvert pipe.
The driver, a woman in her 60s, was trapped inside the vehicle following the collision and had to be extricated by rescue crews.
Emergency Medical Technicians, Harmony Valley Fire District firefighters, and two sheriff’s deputies from Washington County were able to free the woman from the vehicle and move her up to the roadway. She was treated for a suspected broken leg and several other injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.
She was then transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for additional medical treatment.
The cause of the crash is under investigation as deputies were unable to speak to the victim at the scene due to her condition.
Traffic was re-routed into a single lane for the hour it took responders to clear the scene.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
