Anyone walking through a developed area or by the side of a roadway is considered a pedestrian. Pedestrians are, basically, anybody traveling by foot, even if they are doing nothing more than walking across a parking lot. There are both state and local laws that are intended to keep them safe a prevent terrible accidents.
Even though parking lots and intersections are areas for both pedestrian and vehicular use, these areas still see more than their fair share of pedestrian-involved accidents every day.
Anytime a pedestrian is inside a crosswalk, drivers have a duty to yield the right of way. Given the vast difference between the sizes and weights of motor vehicles and pedestrians, it is compulsory for drivers to yield to those on foot under almost any circumstances.
Pedestrian injuries normally result in severe financial, physical, and psychological repercussions. Sadly, the insurance companies and the negligent driver will not want to settle by fairly compensating you for your injuries and damages. They will do anything to lowball or devalue your claim, and leave you without the reimbursement you so desperately need.
