Vehicle Accidents in Utah

Automobile collisions occur every single day in the state of Utah. The five most common causes of these crashes include:

    • Distracted Driving: In Utah, distracted driving is, by far, the leading cause of auto collisions. Law enforcement officers have advised that the issue of distracted drivers is a much larger problem than statistics indicate given the fact that drivers are, naturally, quite reticent to admit they were paying attention to their phone instead of the road, along with the difficulties that always come with determining what caused an accident.

Some common forms of distracted driving in Utah are:

        • Making telephone calls, sending text messages, or watching videos from behind the wheel
        • Trying to eat or drink while operating a motor vehicle
        • Using your car’s satellite navigation system or stereo
        • Being fatigued
    • Teenage Drivers: Statistics have shown that inexperienced drivers are much more prone to being involved in vehicle accidents. Although the overall number of auto crashes involving adolescent drivers is reasonably uniform throughout the year, the number of fatal accidents involving teen motorists almost doubles in the summer
    • Speeding: Driving too fast is a major cause of fatal collisions in Utah. More than 11,000 crashes caused by drivers disobeying the posted speed limit happened in the state in 2016 and caused more than 100 fatalities. To operate your vehicle safely, always observe the speed limit and always take traffic and road conditions into account.
    • Being Improperly Restrained: Although it is certainly common knowledge that buckling up saves thousands of lives every year, a lot of Utahns cannot be bothered. Drivers who were unrestrained or improperly restrained when an accident occurred comprised roughly 50% of all crash fatalities in the summer of 2016. Vehicle occupants who are unbuckled are 25 times more vulnerable to sustaining fatal injuries than those wearing a seat belt.
    • Weekend Traffic: The extraordinary amount of automobiles on our state’s highways and roadways contributes immensely to its high car accident rate. During the summer, Saturdays are documented as being the most dangerous day to be on the road, especially from the afternoon into the early evening.
