St. George, UT (July 21, 2021) – A motorcycle rider was badly injured and taken to a local hospital after a two-vehicle collision on 3000 South that resulted in an investigation by the accident reconstruction team on Tuesday, July 20th.
A source inside the St. George Police Department stated that, at about 1:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the scene at the corner of 3000 South and 3150 East after being notified of a two-vehicle accident between a motorcycle and a white Cadillac sport utility vehicle.
Preliminary reports showed that the motorcycle rider was not breathing and unconscious before first responders began arriving at the site.
Upon their arrival, officers located the downed rider who was critically injured but had begun breathing by then. The man was transported by Emergency Medical Services to St. George Regional Hospital in serious condition.
The female driver of the SUV was also taken by ambulance to be treated at the hospital for unspecified injuries.
At the time the crash occurred, the Cadillac was traveling southbound on 3000 East as the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on 3150 East. At some point, according to officials, both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and collided with one another. The force of the impact pushed the motorcycle into the front of the SUV and tossed both rider and bike almost 50 feet from the point of impact.
Police have noted that this is only preliminary information. The crash reconstruction team that was called to the scene was still in the process of collecting evidence and taking measurements in order properly to investigate the cause of the accident, which is a process that can take several hours.
According to police reports, the motorcycle rider sustained significant head injuries during the impact.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Severe injuries, such as a traumatic brain injury or even wrongful death, can stem from a serious motorcycle crash, particularly when another motor vehicle is involved. This is due to the fact that motorcycles do not provide their riders with any of the safety features that the occupants of passenger vehicles routinely take for granted, like seat belts, a roll cage, and airbags, leaving riders exposed to serious internal injuries, as well as injuries to their brain and spinal cord.
