St. George, UT (October 28, 2022) – Two vehicles sustained serious damages in a crash that happened on Thursday morning, October 27. Police suspect the incident was caused  by an intoxicated driver.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 a.m. Police and emergency crews were sent to the scene, located on Tonaquint Drive near Chandler Drive. Two vehicles were involved in the accident, including a silver Toyota Camry and a gray Mazda.

Police arrived at the scene to find the Toyota halfway on the sidewalk with severe front-end damage. The Mazda was significantly damaged when it stopped near the median, partially blocking the northbound lane.

The Toyota’s driver was transported to the hospital with injuries. The Mazda’s driver was also taken to an area medical center for the treatment of injuries.

When the wreck occurred, the Mazda was headed south on Tonaquint Drive while the Toyota was traveling north along the same street. Witnesses stated the Toyota began to swerve and veer toward the median before it continued into the Mazda’s path.

This caused the Mazda’s driver to overcorrect to attempt to avoid the crash. However, the impact caused both vehicles to spin around. The Toyota then jumped the curb and stopped on the opposite side of the street.

Traffic in both directions was reduced to one lane while the wreck site was active with responders. Authorities in St. George continue to investigate the details of the accident.

We hope for the full recovery of those with injuries.
