Sandy, UT (May 27, 2022) – State Street was shut down in both directions at an intersection in Sandy on the morning of Friday, May 27th following a fatal multi-vehicle collision.

The accident took place at about 8:40 a.m. on 10600 South when the driver of a Toyota 4Runner blew through a red light at a high rate of speed and collided with a Ford F-150 in the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota died at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.

After the initial impact, seven other vehicles collided with the first two resulting in numerous injuries.

According to a report from the Sandy Police Department, two patients were taken by paramedics to a local hospital in serious condition. Additional patients sustained minor injuries and received treatment on the scene.

It has not been definitively determined why the driver of the 4Runner ran the light, but excessive speed is being considered a major factor.

Police are also working to establish if distracted driving and/or driver impairment played a role in the deadly crash.

State Street remained shut down through Friday afternoon as investigation and road clean-up continued.

This weekend is the start of Utah’s 100 Deadliest Days when the number of traffic fatalities increases considerably from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

If you were injured in a car accident, you most likely have a lot of important questions, such as: How are you going to pay your medical bills? How long will it take for you to fully recover? How much of your damages is your insurance going to cover?

A car accident is a frightening experience. To make things worse, insurers usually try to pressure victims into settling their claims as fast as possible. Preferably before you even understand the full scope of your injuries. It is important that you don’t let a greedy insurance company bully you into accepting a settlement offer that is nowhere near what you deserve.

A Utah personal injury attorney will be able to guide you through the legal process as well as mitigate the overwhelming confusion and frustration that so often come with pursuing a personal injury claim. They will know the most effective way to build a solid case and make sure that you move through the phases of the claim as quickly as possible.
