Salt Lake City, UT (October 15, 2022) – A pedestrian was struck by a car that collided with a TRAX train in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, October 14th.

At about 6:00 p.m., a driver ran a red light and attempted to turn at the intersection of Main Street and 500 South. The vehicle was then hit by a TRAX light rail train and launched into a 32-year-old man who was with another pedestrian walking their dog.

The man sustained non-critical injuries and was found conscious and alert at the scene. The female pedestrian and her dog were unharmed during the incident.

The driver of the car, who was not the vehicle’s registered owner, fled the scene but was quickly located and taken into custody. The owner has since retrieved their vehicle from police.

No one on board the train was injured.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Pedestrian Injuries in Utah

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that a pedestrian is injured once every 8 minutes and killed once every two hours somewhere in the country. About 5,000 pedestrians died as a result of car accidents in 2014. In that same year, 15% of all vehicular deaths were pedestrians.

In Utah, about 30 pedestrians are killed by negligent drivers every year and another 785 will have to go to the emergency room or require long-term hospitalization for treatment of their injuries. The Utah Highway Safety Office says that the rate of pedestrian-involved accidents has grown every year for nearly a decade, with 2012 marking the apex of these tragic events.

When you are represented by a reputable Salt Lake City pedestrian injury lawyer from Jardine Law Offices, your odds of receiving full economic recovery are considerably greater than those of someone attempting to represent themselves.
