Pedestrian Accidents in Utah

In Utah, roughly 30 pedestrians die due to negligent drivers every year and an additional 785 will require a visit to the emergency room or long-term hospitalization for treatment of their crash-related injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that a pedestrian injury happens once every 8 minutes and a pedestrian fatality takes place once every two hours somewhere in the United States. About 5,000 pedestrians died as a result of car accidents in 2014. In that same year, 15% of all vehicular deaths were pedestrians.

The Utah Highway Safety Office says that the rate of pedestrian-involved accidents has grown every year for nearly a decade, with 2012 marking the apex of these tragic events.
