Riverton, UT (May 09, 2022) – A teenager who would have graduated from Riverton High School next month was killed in an accident on Friday, May 6th in Riverton.

According to sources, 18-year-old Taegan Brown was riding with some friends in a Jeep Wrangler with the doors removed at about 10:00 p.m. when he fell out of the vehicle.

Brown was riding in the front passenger seat and was holding onto a door strap as the vehicle traveled along Park Haven Lane.

The door strap broke, and Brown was flipped out of the Jeep, striking his head on the asphalt. He was transported via ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. He later passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

Police are investigating the accident. Speed is not believed to be a factor.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Taegan Brown, at this time.

Defective Products in Utah

A dangerous product or defective product is any product that, whether due to flaws in manufacturing, labeling, or design, or for bad judgment, insufficient training, nefarious intent, or basic human error, results in death or injury to an individual or damage to property. Any product that is commercially available has the potential to be defective, including over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, car parts and components, sports gear, exercise equipment, baby cribs, baby toys, defibrillators, food, and more.

Products cause injuries and death because they are poorly designed or poorly made, but these flaws can come from different places. The law in Utah recognizes three different kinds of product defects. Based on your circumstances, you might be entitled to file a product liability suit against the manufacturer, designer, wholesaler, or distributor.

Victims might be able to file a claim for:

    • Design defects: Anytime the design of a product is flawed, consumers could be endangered. Victims will have to prove that the engineer or developer failed to design the item with safety in mind.
    • Manufacturing defects: Even a small problem during the manufacturing or assembling process can result in very serious product defects. Victims will have to show that subpar materials were used or a mistake was made by the manufacturer and a batch or all of a product is a danger to consumers.
    • Failure to warn: Certain products in the retail market, such as kitchen appliances, power tools, and backyard grills have risks that are inherent in using them. The distributor or manufacturer is required to provide warnings or labels that warn consumers of these dangers so they can use their product safely. Victims will have to demonstrate that a distributor’s failure to provide proper and ample warnings resulted in their injury.

In these kinds of cases, victims are not expected to show that a company intentionally released a defective or dangerous product. They only have to show that it poses a danger when it is used for its intended purpose or in a reasonable manner. By working with industry professionals and engineers, our product liability lawyers can identify the kind of defect that caused your injuries and begin building a solid claim around it.

If you were injured or lost a loved one in an accident caused by a dangerous or defective product, reach out to our Utah personal injury attorneys at (801) 350-3506 to schedule a no-obligation, confidential review of your potential product liability claim.
