Parleys Canyon, UT – One Hospitalized Following Rollover Accident on I-80 Near East Canyon

Parleys Canyon, UT (May 09, 2022) – A driver is recovering in the hospital after a collision caused his vehicle to overturn on Interstate 80 just outside of parleys Canyon on Monday, May 9th. 

According to a witness, the crash took place at about 7:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate near the exit leading to East Canyon at milepost 132. 

Light snow was falling when the accident occurred and the pavement was slick from ice.

After the collision, a passenger van left the righthand side of the roadway, flipped onto the driver’s side, and crashed into the side of a cliff

Both vehicles were totaled following the crash.

A bystander pulled over and attempted to extricate the driver of the van, however, access to the victim was blocked by the passenger-side airbag which had deployed. Access to the driver’s side was blocked by the mountain.

When the victim was finally extricated, he was reportedly stumbling and visibly shaken and bloodied, but alert.  

Rescue crews on the scene transported the injured party to an area hospital for immediate medical treatment of unknown injuries.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.

There was no word on any other injuries.

• • Weekend Traffic: The enormous number of vehicles on Utah’s roadways contributes considerably to Utah’s car accident rate. During the summer, Saturdays are the most dangerous time to drive, specifically from the afternoon into the early evening.   
  • Being Improperly Restrained: Seat belts really do save lives, but many Utah residents still can’t be bothered. Drivers who were not buckled when their accident took place comprised 50% of all car accident fatalities in the summer of 2016. in half of the fatal car accidents between June and August of 2016. Passengers and drivers who are not properly restrained are 25 times more likely to die in a crash.
