When an accident involving hazardous materials occurs, many emergency responders are not familiar with the safety measures that have to be taken to handle this kind of incident without producing more injured victims.
Besides being ineffective, this lack of awareness of safety protocol also creates a risky situation for the victims involved in the accident as well as the responders themselves since a lot of mistakes could easily be made when the operation and maintenance of a tractor-trailer or the handling of hazardous materials are not correctly executed.
Federal and state governments are responsible for the safety regulations overseeing the transportation of hazardous materials. Recently, policymakers at both levels re-evaluated the efficacy of current laws, mainly due to the safety concerns surrounding the shipping of dangerous materials.
If failure to abide by the regulations that control safety and compliance where hazardous materials played a role in your accident, you have legal options available to you.
