In 2016, there were 78 fatal intersection accidents in Utah accounting for almost 20% of all fatal car accidents that year. According to a representative from the Utah Highway Patrol, no less than 93% of those deaths were caused by human error.
While driving regulations and laws in every state exist for the main purpose of limiting car accidents and the loss of life, it is obvious that not enough is being done. This is especially true when you consider that Utah’s rate of fatal car accidents has increased by over 25% since its all-time low back in 2012.
Although some of these fatal accidents can be attributed to a major increase in travel, most of the state’s fatal crashes occur because drivers refuse to heed the state’s warnings about safe driving. Offenses are various and range from not being properly restrained to driving while intoxicated. The first and foremost point to understand is the importance of safety as a serious car accident can happen at any time.
