Layton, UT (August 17, 2021) – A suspect was apprehended after he allegedly caused a six-vehicle collision while driving into oncoming traffic on Monday, August 16th in Davis County.

As stated in arresting documents, police responded to reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 89.

The driver, now identified as 27-year-old Dayton Rogers, was witnessed fleeing the scene which, according to police, caused injuries to multiple people.

After disregarding police orders instructing him to stand still and reaching for something in his pocket, Rogers was tased and taken into custody.

In addition to being found in possession of a weapon, the vehicle being driven by the suspect was listed as stolen out of South Ogden.

The arresting documents go on to state that Rogers was unable to keep his eyes open, and said he was “paranoid” and “confused” about where he was.

Rogers was booked for driving under the influence, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, unlawful acquisition of a financial card, failure to remain at an accident involving injury, never obtaining a driver’s license, and interference with an arresting officer.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Drunk Driving Accidents in Layton

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that one person was killed by a drunk driver every 48 minutes in 2017, indicating 10,874 people died in alcohol-related car accidents that year, representing 29% of all traffic fatalities in the United States. These numbers were nearly identical to 2016’s totals, which had not been that low since 1985.

When injuries are sustained during a crash due to another party’s negligence, victims should immediately seek legal guidance from an accident attorney in Salt Lake City. Anytime somebody is harmed and another person was the cause of that harm, they are able to receive financial compensation for their damages and losses.

In 2018 and 2019, the rate of arrests for drunk and drugged drivers fell by 4%. The largest percentage of these drivers were arrested in Davis, Salt Lake, Weber, and Utah counties, making up 70% of the state’s drunk driving arrests. Every remaining county outside of Wasatch Front added together comprised just 30% of Utah’s drunk driving crashes, a figure that is disproportionate to the region’s population.

At Jardine Law Offices P. C., our Utah car accident attorneys see to it that their personal injury clients get the justice they are looking for. They will do everything possible to ensure that their clients are able to collect the greatest amount of monetary compensation allotted for their claim.

Similar to other kinds of car crashes, liability on the part of the intoxicated driver has to be proven in order for you to receive financial compensation for your losses. Losses in a DUI claim include both economic and non-economic. In very special circumstances, punitive damages may also be sought because the driver showed gross negligence in their decision to drive drunk.
