Data for Motor Vehicle Crashes in Utah

More than three million people, all of whom live, raise families, play, and work, call the state of Utah home. Sadly, as beautiful as the state is, it also has one of the worst vehicle collision rates in the nation. Most of these collisions result in critical injuries or even fatalities for those involved.

As emphasized by data reviewed by the Utah Department of Public Safety, vehicle crashes across the state continue to cause more and more victim deaths each and every year. In 2020 alone, over 53,000 motor vehicle crashes took place just in Salt Lake County. These crashes caused some form of injury to over 16,000 victims. In that same year, about 270 people were killed in vehicle collisions throughout the United States.

Some of the most frequent sources of Utah car crashes include things like:

      • Offensive driving or aggressive driving (road rage)
      • Driving while intoxicated (drugs and/or alcohol)
      • Driving while exhausted or excessively sleepy
      • Disregarding the legal posted speed limit

In many instances, the victims of these events are motorcycle riders, bicyclists, or pedestrians.

As you travel up and down Utah’s highways and roadways, there are simple actions you are able to take to keep yourself and those in your vehicle safe, like always making sure you have your seat belt on, observing all relevant driving laws and road signage, and always focusing on your driving and being mindful of your surroundings. Never get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle when you are tired and keep your newspaper, mobile phone, and other distractions out of reach so you are not tempted by distractions and become a danger to yourself and those around you.

Our victim injury lawyers can help you obtain the justice you want and the economic recovery you deserve. Based on the events leading up to your crash, you might be entitled to significant compensation for your medical costs, lost income, pain, suffering, and other losses.
